[ Ponta is a hypocrite to even think of Datz as a hypocrite, but sometimes that's what murder town makes of you. As a result, he doesn't super want to talk to the man right now, but... Well, they're here now.
Outside of the high tension context of the trial, and with the execution over and done with, Ponta is not nearly as bristly anymore. ]

Everyone thought Yae Miko's murderer was an unbelievable monster until they found out who it is. I don't mind that Adlet is dead, after what he pulled, but to say that we voted him over Reigen because we consider Reigen the better person... Really now?

Yep. 'Cause some of us knew him well enough to know he wouldn't kill anyone without a darn good reason, so we had to be missing a huge chunk of the story if the evidence ended up pointing to him. Which was true.
I'm not sayin' voting out an innocent person instead was right, 'cause it wasn't, even if it was the choice some of us decided to make. But I'm absolutely saying there's no way in hell he'd ever brutally murder a kid to get at somebody else or take hostages like that.
[ It's a straight-forward answer and that earns Datz enough respect back that Ponta pauses to seriously consider it. ]
For a habitual liar, he really has a way of winning people over.
[ From where Ponta is standing, Reigen is extremely shady as a person. Not talking to him much in private but watching his public performances, the transparent lies and the less transparent ones... How could he not be wary? ]

Yeah, well. He may lie about a lot of dumb stuff, but there's no mistaking the important things — how much he cares about a lot of the people here, and how far he'd go to protect 'em. I want him alive 'cause I know he'll keep doing everything he can to help us get through this.

[ The Janeway trial is over and done with and it was entirely inconclusive, so they can't say with certainty whether or not someone killed for Reigen or someone took advantage of the situation.
Either way, it leaves a bad taste in Ponta's mouth. ]
It's a double-edged sword, depending on where you stand.
